What is SIX Exchange?
The SIX Swiss Exchange, located in Zurich, Switzerland, is one of the world's leading financial marketplaces. Its origins can be traced back to the mid-19th century when the first Swiss stock exchange was established in Geneva in 1850. Over the years, Switzerland's financial markets grew in significance, and the need for a central exchange that could provide a regulated and organized trading platform became increasingly apparent.
History of Swiss Stock Exchange
In 1877, the Zurich Stock Exchange was founded, and it quickly became the leading exchange in Switzerland. The exchange was officially recognized by the Swiss Federal Council in 1893, which helped to solidify its position as the country's primary financial market. Over the following decades, the exchange continued to expand, with the introduction of electronic trading in the 1990s, and the merger with the SWX Swiss Exchange in 2008, forming the SIX Swiss Exchange.
The SIX Swiss Exchange has since evolved into a truly global financial market, providing a comprehensive range of services for trading equities, bonds, derivatives, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). It has also established a strong reputation for innovation and efficiency, leveraging cutting-edge technology to provide traders with fast, reliable, and secure access to the global financial markets.
Scoach
The structured products joint venture between the SWX Group and Deutsche Boerse was renamed "Scoach" (1). Previously, the exchange had operated under the names SWX Quotematch Ltd in Switzerland and Boerse Frankfurt Smart Trading AG in Germany. Scoach aimed to become the leading exchange for structured products in Europe, focusing on certificates, investment, and leverage products. It was launched on January 1, 2007.
In April 2008, trading of structured products in Germany was migrated to Deutsche Boerse's Xetra platform.
Swiss Exchange today
Today, the SIX Swiss Exchange is home to many of the world's leading companies, including some of the largest and most influential in Europe. Its reputation for stability, security, and transparency has made it a preferred destination for investors from around the world, and its impact on the global financial markets continues to grow.
